Get Involved
UConn students majoring in applied data analysis prepare for life after graduation by participating in research, internships, and other hands-on experiences. These opportunities allow you to learn more about your interests, gain professional skills, and build a network that will support you beyond UConn.
Ways to Get Involved
Research
Applied data analysis majors can become a research assistant in a faculty lab. You can also lead your own independent project – and apply for funding programs supporting your work.
Research involvement will provide you with professional experience to add to your resume. You’ll also build relationships with your professors and peers that can help you:
- Generate ideas for your capstone project, which is required for all domains in the major.
- Search for jobs after graduation.
- Apply for graduate schools.
Contact a domain faculty advisor to find undergraduate research opportunities in faculty labs.
Internships
Internships are work/learning experiences where you can apply your coursework to hands-on, real-world problems. For applied data analysis majors, internships can be a great way to explore an industry and determine if it's right for you.
An internship typically lasts two to four months and may be part-time or full-time. They can often be completed for course credit. Some are paid, while others are not.
For more internship information, visit the Center for Career Development's website or contact your academic advisor.
Clubs and Organizations
Applied data analysis majors can get involved in student organizations. These groups allow you to explore topics you’re passionate about, expand your social circle, and build professional skills that employers value.
UConn offers hundreds of organizations and learning communities, such as the UConn Data Science Club. This organization co-sponsors events like the UConn Sports Analytics Symposium, which undergraduate students are welcome to attend.
