Careers

The changing workplace requires more people with a basic understanding of and specialized training in data science.

UConn applied data analysis majors develop technical skills and universal competencies that all employers value, like critical thinking, teamwork, and communication. Once they graduate, our alumni can apply their skills in various professional fields and continue their educations at some of the top graduate programs in the U.S.

Industries and Opportunities

The need for data science professionals spans far beyond STEM fields. Journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, and public and private sector administrators increasingly need to understand and use data in their work.

Graduates of CLAS data science programs can expect to find work in various industries. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics anticipates an increase of about 40,000 data scientist positions between 2021 and 2031, representing about a 36% increase in one decade.

As technology evolves, the increased demand for graduates who can make data-informed decisions will continue to grow.
